I wrote this 20 years ago in my historical novel "Almost"
"It is an odd and unsupported notion in society that education results in knowledge, tolerance and understanding. This may be true when education is sober, reflective and honest, but that has been true for only a tiny portion of human history. For the most part, education inflames the resentments of youth, strips students of their capacity for empathy, and kills all possibilities of peaceful negotiations."
