Hi Stefan:
My dad left when I was very young. I have 3 other siblings and we've all seen him visit pretty rarely. At first it was once a year. Now that we're all adults we'll maybe see him once every few years. I'm getting married in two months and I called him up to personally invite him. I didn't want to but I felt I had to. However, he's married to an absolute witch of a woman who's done horrible things to my sister. I informed him that since I wanted my sister to have a good time at our wedding that his wife wasn't invited. I haven't heard from him since. My grandma apologizes for his behaviour constantly and is still trying to get him to come. But personally I'd rather she didn't. Fatherlessness has had clear disadvantages that I still deal with today but I wonder if his example would really make me a better person. How do I deal with not having a father? How do I make sure I'm the best possible parent for my future kids without an example to look up to?

Stefan Molyneux examines the idea of "defooing," a process of breaking away from harmful family patterns to build a better life ahead. He points out how defooing requires active steps, since damaging family members often block progress in personal bonds and development. Using stories from listeners, he talks about gaining perspective from others, and how family background affects one's sense of self and dealings with people.
He looks at the difficulties in reaching out to family like brothers or sisters after pulling back from a poisonous setup. Molyneux covers the tangled feelings and dangers of being upfront about family issues, noting the likely pushback from those who side with the wrongdoers. He wraps up by considering the role of honesty in creating solid relationships, and stresses choosing ties that actually help, to support one's own recovery and advancement.

Brigitte Bardot passed away this week in her beloved France at 91. I love how she gave zero fucks about being politically correct and spoke the truth about mass immigration, genetics, culture and sexuality. She was among the best of what France has given to the world. AmRen pays tribute.
