In this lecture, I present a radical thesis that challenges the conventional view of history. I argue that the grand movements, ideas, and politics are not the cause of historical events. Instead, I propose that the sway between violence and reason in human conflicts is determined by our predisposition to listen to the language we already speak, shaped by our childhood experiences. I explore the tragic consequences of individuals who escape from chaos but fail to help others, leaving them to suffer.
To understand the French Revolution, we must consider childhood experiences and objective ethics. I delve into the difference between the French Revolution and the American Revolution, uncovering the dark underbelly of the French Revolution characterized by child abuse and neglect. The middle class, who could have been beacons of hope, turned a blind eye or contributed to the chaos. I discuss the influential thinkers of the time, such as Voltaire and Diderot, and their criticisms of religion and power structures.
I then focus on the contrasting perspectives of Rousseau and Locke on childhood and their impact on society. Rousseau believed that the state should have complete control over education, while Locke emphasized the importance of individual agency. I discuss their ideas on the tension between reason and emotion and the role of childhood in shaping society's acceptance of various ideas.

The conversation delves into the contentious issue of abortion, sparked by a caller's concerns about Stefan's views presented in his 5001st episode on Roe v. Wade. They explore differing perspectives on abortion rights, personal freedom, and the complexities surrounding unwanted pregnancies, particularly in cases of incest and rape. Stefan argues that many unwanted babies find homes through adoption, prompting discussions on the nuances of the foster care system and parental rights. The conversation highlights the importance of understanding the societal and emotional implications of abortion, particularly for women in abusive relationships, and examines the need for a cultural shift towards responsible parenting and supportive structures. Both participants agree on the necessity of compassionate dialogue regarding abortion laws and the complexities surrounding them, ultimately committing to further discussions on how society can better support families and reduce unwanted pregnancies.

Seeking advice about what to do next in life
Details: Hi Stefan! I'm a big fan of your show and I've recently gotten back into listening to it more regularly. I'm a 30-year-old woman from Australia. I've lived a pretty great life with many amazing experiences, including fashion modelling in Japan, South Korea, and New York! I'm politically involved and always doing something 'for the cause'. Professionally, I'm bored at my job, and I'm stumped about what to do next in work and in life. I'm a single Christian with conservative values, and I'd love to get married and have a family, but I'm struggling to find a man I'm compatible with and interested in. I guess you could say I am feeling quite lost. Something has got to change in my life soon, and I would absolutely relish your advice, insights and knowledge as to what that could be. I would appreciate an objective point of view from someone as intelligent as yourself. Kind regards, [NAME]
